We are nurses because we love what we do!

Nurses have a very difficult job.  Think about it.....nursing school is very demanding and then we dive into our profession and are in the midst of strife, what seems like all the time.  Nurses deal with a lot of very rude people, work under stress with very little help, work long hours and get very little recognition or reward.  However, we love what we do and wouldn't change it for the world!

  1. Hi, I am checking the validity of my blog. It appears to be working and I am posting to it to prove this. Thanks, Laurie

  2. I agree that our profession is a stressful one. We work in a world where a mistake can cause the loss of a life. We do not receive the luxury of a "do over." We must think fast and correct the first time and every time. Once the factors that you mentioned in you blog are included this becomes the environment to create burn out. Nurses are natural caretakers who would not allow anything to stop us from being that type of personality. We live for our turn.

    1. I know nursing has changed my life; the way I think (I now assess), the way I act (now I plan and organize) and the relationships I have (evaluate) all the time. I am also a multitasker, which I happen to think nurses do best!

  3. Laurie,

Yes I too agree that our profession is difficult and most times very demanding. I think that there are many things as nurses that we can do to prevent and curtail nurse burnout. I think being self aware and being able to step back and realize that we are experiencing burnout, can really help us determine when it is time for a change.

  4. I guess the great part of nursing is that there are so many avenues for us. We are now choosing a different avenue that will take us away from the bedside and begin our focus on training new nurses or enhancing the knowledge and skill for already licensed nurses. What great opportunities we have. My niece just graduated from nursing school and is in her first nursing position. She loves it! I tell her all the time "the sky is the limit!"
